Not My Home

I look around at a world I no longer recognize. I live in a nation that I never thought I would. Things have changed, the world has changed. Who would’ve thought we would see anything like this in our lifetime? A world-wide pandemic scare, preachers being arrested for holding a church service, store shelves wiped clean, citizens fearing to get out and convene together in one place, businesses closed, a nation locked behind closed doors, and a world that is scared, paranoid, cynical and distraught. This is not my home.
The good news is that’s the very thing we’re reminded of scripture, that this world is not our home.
“But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.”
Philippians 3:20-21 NLT
We are reminded that this world is not out home through this verse as well as the old hymn with the same name. Our citizenship is in heaven. We don’t even need a green card to go there. Jesus already paid that price and gave us the stamp of approval if we are in Him. We have an inheritance in heaven with Chrsit if we are united with Him.
“Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.”. Ephesians 1:11 NLT
Matthew tells us not to store up treasures in this fleeting world. In a decaying world where moth and rust destroys and thieves break in and steal.
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; “but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21
Another popular hymn we sing, one of my favorites, Abide With Me, says this, “Change and decay in all around I see. Life's fleeting joys grow dim.” So we beg for the one who does not change in a changing world to abide with us.
The one thing I can hold to and know is true is Jesus and His Word. He promised before He left this earth that He was going to prepare a place for us in heaven with Him and His Father.
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.”. John 14:1-3 NLT
In a world that has seemed to have gone crazy and we don’t know what to trust we can count on the Lord.
If there is one that that I can trust and hold on to in this changing world, it is the truth of Gods Word. In a world that seems to have gone completely mad, I can be grateful that this world is not my home.
