New Year, Old You

The new year brings with it the dreaded resolutions that I can never seem to abide by.
I can get discouraged and give up when I don’t follow through in those areas that I want to change.
If good intentions count I would have accomplished all of my goals by now.
I think this year instead of focusing on the new and improved me, I'm going to focus on the old me. No, this isn’t coming from selfish ambitions.
I want to look at what I accomplished and achieved in the old year and improve upon that.
I think the devil can sometimes get us wrapped up in what we can‘t accomplish as opposed to to who we are in Christ, which makes us discount God’s grace.
Don’t get me wrong. This is not an excuse to continue in my sins and old ways. May it never be. There may be some areas in your life that God may be calling you to improve on and change, if so, I say be resolute in making those changes. God knows there are areas I can do better.
I know for now I want to continue to do good things, keep improving a day at a time...pressing on to the goal...seeking first God’s kingdom and I think those new resolutions will gradually come and fall into place. I will slowly begin to change and grow as the Christian I strive to be and become more like Christ.
“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:14 NKJV
Here‘s to a new year of improving on the old you...and me.
