My Soul Magnifies the Lord

I’ll admit that it’s hard to wait and trust in the Lord sometimes. Patience may be a virtue, but it’s a hard one to grasp, but patience is worth the wait.
The beauty of being a Christian and trusting in the Lord, is that believing is seeing. Believing God will come through and do what he says before it happens is called faith, and what I’ve always heard about faith is it’s believing without seeing. Walking by faith, not sight.
Faith involves waiting and patience. Somehow these virtues, these fruits of the Spirit seem to work togeher.
Young Mary, the mother of Jesus seemed to posses these qualities. She had a bomb dropped on her recieving a message from an angel that she would bear the Savior of the world. “And the angel answered and said to her, “ The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.” Luke 1:35-37 I can imagine my response would’ve been filled with fear and doubt and impatience, although Mary may have been frightened and not fully understand what was ahead she said, “Let it be to me according to your word.” Luke 1:38 NKJV
She didn’t know the future, she didn’t know the full outcome of this mission yet she trusted and believed in the One who did.
Upon her arrival of meeting her cousin who was with child, carrying John the Baptist, the baby heard Mary’s voice and jumped in the womb. More mystery, more of the unknown, yet Elizabeth says to Mary, “You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.” Luke 1:45
You are blessed because you believe the Lord would do what He said!
I wonder how blessed we would be or are when we believe the Lord will do what He says. If we wait, trust, believe and hope in faith.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
So, the Proverbs tells us what can we do while we wait and trust. Acknowledge Him, the NLT version says, “seek his will in all you do.” Another similar verse says to, “Seek first the kingdom of God and all of these things will be given to you.” Matthew 6:33
It comes back to faith, trust and waiting on the Lord.
Some of the greatest things we can offer to God is our faith and praise. Praising God while waiting is the ultimate way of expressing our faith to God and others.
Mary knew this quite well, when her path ahead was an unknown mystery, when she knew her life would change completely from here on out, when she didn’t understand why a baby in a womb would leap at the sound of her voice, and was told she is blessed just because she believed. All she could do was cry out, “My soul magnifies the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior....For He who is mighty has done great things for me, And holy is His name.” Luke 1:46-47;49
Yet, Mary knew God’s mercy was great and would extend to all who believe and have faith in Him and fear His name.
“And His mercy is on those who fear Him From generation to generation. He has shown His strength with His arm.” Luke 1:50-51
I hope our response would be the same as we wait on the Lord and that we proclaim, “My soul magnifies the Lord!”
